Hi,The big fat AMD server that hosts cfarm420..422,430 will undergo an unusual temporary maintenance. This time it will be moved into a rack. They will be down during Dec 29 to Jan 4.
This has been completed yesterday. A dead HBA was replaced and will be dissected soon. I think there will be less/shorter downtime because the servers are more stable and easier to maintain now, hopefully.
On the other hand, I also have bad news on the networking side. The negotiation with ISPs to setup FTTH did not go well. One ISP outright rejected because "the 8th floor is too high" (whatever this means). But I'm not giving up; still wrestling with other ISPs and the homeowner association. I realize there was some complaint about the very high network latency (Japan-France-China) and I'm sorry that there is nothing I can do to make light or electricity travel faster.
It looks like my fight with the homeowner association (the biggest obstacle, who insists on self imposed vendor lock on one ISP) may last for a long time, meanwhile I have an idea to make the packets travel a shorter distance for users in Asia and Americas. The idea is to use a VPS in Tokyo (instead of France, now) and a wireguard tunnel.
Thanks for flying cfarm42x and a very early happy new year to all.
