Thanks Tom,  Yes i have that tool.  It's the one where the tools menu  has vanished and i dont know how to get it back.

It can't work teh same as your mySQL tool because Microsoft "Improved" the table/data transfer mechanism, dropping DTS, which no longer works in SQLServer2005 infavour of a new "improved" SSIS instead.  Which doesnt seem to be "improved" at all in my view, at least for people who just want to quickly upload or download databases.

I'm really intrugued that no one has admitted to actually accomplishing this.  I was hopeful that by now there would be SOMEONE who would say "yes I did it, so I konw it can be done".   So I still dont know if i'm wasting my time, chasing something that's going to prove to be impossible.

Incidentally, Joel, I found a "copy database" function which filled me with optimism, but it doesnt work in a hosting environment becuase it needs to create the database on the receiving machine, and in a hosting environment only the system administrators and the control panel has the permissions to create databases.  You can't create databases yourself.

I use mySQL Manager by EMS for looking after my msSQL dbs. They also have a product called SQL Manager 2005. If it works like the mySQL version, you'll be able to do everything you need to do. Copy whole dbs, copy tables, restore backups, etc. Very easy to use.
