The compatibility to IIS 6 is only needed when you install ColdFusion 9. If you don't run the administrator, you can upgrade to ColdFusion 9.01 and then run the Administrator.
IIS 7/7.5/8 require that certain features be installed, which are not installed by default. IIS itself of course, and the cgi/isapi options need to be installed as well.
