My previous experience with Cold Fusion (4.5) and LDAP was not so much if CFLDAP works or not but moreso the totally BIZARRE syntaxes and requirements of making LDAP calls syntactically correct.
If you can conquer that one, there should be no problems with CF and LDAP.
We actually used LDAP (from Cold Fusion) to control our mailing lists. The mailer then accessed the LDAP lists and used those for bulk mailings.
I think our security was also LDAP based and kept in sync with our user database.
If I remember rightly, LDAP can also be wrapped up in a CFTRANSACTION (so if you are updating a bunch of tables and LDAP you can ensure it is all kept synchronised).
