My rules are: 1. If your CFC is responsible for output - give it "toString" methods rather than outputting it directly. This way your CFC is still just returning data and doesnt have to know what is being done with it. 2. Prefer to use a <CFIMPORT> tag for output. 3. If the platform supports it, consider returning XML data from the CFC and using XSLT to output the HTML/VML/etc. I have a few instances of something like what you are talking about - but nothing "generic" that can be used on any query with any columnset/layout. I personally use the two rules above with preference for the 2nd. In javascript itself, I always use the 1st rule.
