The good reason was because of the problems with CFC's prior to Red-Sky. If you stored your CFC object (which would be quite likely if it was going to perform output functions) you would lose stuff because of the environment space problems. This should be resolved with Red-Sky (CFMX 6.1) - but there are still good reasons to keep presentation out of the CFC's (aside from the fact that CFIMPORT provides a really nice way to extend the tagspace).
