Hi Claude,

Crystal is now a separate license, and comes with it's own set of hurdles to overcome.

I've tried a number of methods for calling crystal 9 over the web, and eventually settled on a variant of the ASP samples they provide. I couldn't get cfreport to work - I guess it should work, but I couldn't call a simple example, let alone some of the more complex things I wanted to do such as creating pdf or word directly, and passing in selection criteria and parameter fields.

Crystal on a dedicated intranet box has been excellent, but on a  shared hosting environment is an ongoing source of stress as far as stability goes.

Phil.

Subject: [cfaussie] Crystal Reports and CFMX

According to to Ben Forta Booking back in the cf 4.0 days Crystal reports viewer was automatically installed as part of the basic cf server and hence did not require the web server to separately install a version of crystal reports in order to view crystal report files referenced in cfreport tag.

Can someone please clarify the situation with cf mx whether crystal report view is automatically installed as part of the basic install of cf server or does the web server require a separate installation of crystal reports in order to be able to view the reports via cfreport.

My cf hosting service has advised me that crystal reports needs to be installed separately onto the server and they recommend that I use cfchart instead of cfreport. However the main purpose is for me to generate management reports in traditional table format and not to generate charts and graphs hence I suspect cfchart would not be the solution

Kind Regards
