I got a "Page Not Found" error on the above URL.

In any case, you want to use a "portable" mechanism to get updates from a
server (so if this is Netscape/Browser specific - it isn't portable).

Many servers just don't stop streaming data (evidenced by a progress bar
that always remains half full and a top right icon spinning away
continuously).

These types of pages are very easy to create in PHP.

If you want to create such a thing in CF just use <CFFLUSH> and keep
constantly looping. As long as data is streaming then you wont get a
timeout. However, this is not much good for "tidy" HTML pages where you
want to go and update certain portions of the page. In this case, you
would need one of the mechanisms described using a hidden IFRAME or FRAME
to get your "streaming" data, decode it, and then deliver it via
Javascript to the right portions of your page.

The other (better?) option is to use XMLHTTP from Javascript. Then set up
a timer to regularly do a call to the server and get back an XML/HTML
packet that you then interpret and deliver.

We are currently using the above technique for a full windowing system
based in DHTML and it works very reliably.

For an example of how this works (and a cross-browser class for XMLHTTP)
check out the XLoadTree at http://webfx.eae.net

And - in just checking to ensure WebFX is currently available I have
discovered they have their own "Windows in HTML" project up and running.
I'll have to check that out.
