CF5 was not very good with double byte characters unless it was set up with the right locale. Did you check the content of your db ? is it encoded properly ? in Unicode format ?

Has anyone had an experience with displaying other languages, in particular
Asian. I have a site that was created in CF 5 and it use to accept Chinese
characters from an external source, save them to a database and display
them
through HTML.
The server was recently upgraded to CF MX and now the characters do not
display correctly.
