Thnaks Laurent,
I have little experience in this area so I'll just have to do
some
searching around for some technical information.

Your data should look nice and clean if you were using unicode.
Few people already got the problem, you need to re save your data in a
right way using CFMX.
You can use your CFMX server to CFHTTP you CF5 box and re save the data in
a clean nvarchar field.
Can't see any other solution, didn't see anybody able to interpret unicode
encoded in CF5.

The database is just standard encoding (SQl Server), the data looks like
crap but it would display correctly in CF5.

CF5 was not very good with double byte characters unless it was set up with
the right locale.
Did you check the content of your db ? is it encoded properly ? in Unicode
format ?

Has anyone had an experience with displaying other languages, in particular
Asian. I have a site that was created in CF 5 and it use to accept Chinese
characters from an external source, save them to a database and display
them
through HTML.
The server was recently upgraded to CF MX and now the characters do not
display correctly.
