Thanks for the insight <snip>, The turnout for the live MM Studio MX 2004 presentation was encouring - and hosted by the Canberra MMUG - so it staggers me why MM (since Allaire) neglected the ACT.
When Nick McNaughton (I wonder where he is now) was supporting us through Allaire the support was great and Allaire frequently held seminars and demos for their products. Now that MM owns Allaire products, and many more excellent ones to boot, and seems strange to neglect the capital where you vote for 'em and we put up with 'em. I have attended many roadshows in my time, with Corel, Micro$oft, Toshiba (not Toshiba... TOSHIBA!), Allaire and Adobe (the most recent and really well attended non-MS roadshow - and entertaining - I mean Acrobat entertaining? you bet). Adobe did everything right. They had their products for sale through The Software Shop (http://www.softwareshop.com.au) as well as attendance by training partners. They also had raffles and giveaways too. I will always covet my squeezy Adobe football. Anyway back to migrating the ACTCFUG site to our new RedSky server... We had the same issue here in Brisbane for the longest time. The problem is that Macromedia has a perception that there isn't the market in Canberra to warrant such a trip. All you have to do is change the perception. Your Adobe example is a good one for that. Make sure Macromedia in Australia are aware of it. Start with Robin Hilliard, go up from there. Don't get angry, just make sure they're aware of what _they_ are missing out on. If they eventually manage to get any kind of roadshow type event there, do everything in your power to get as many people there as possible. Rent-a-crowd, family, friends, co-workers, actual publicity and promotion to people likely to be interested even! Brisbane was never visited until we finally got a 'sympathy' visit for the CF5 launch. The numbers that attended blew them away and we've been a regular stop on the roadshows ever since.
