Hmm, so no more messing up the server when using CFMAIL then.
Maybe it's a good time to give it another test and see how smooth it runs in MX!

So you'd reckon CFMAIL would work better/more stable than the native SQL mailing 
functionality?

Yes, CFMAIL now provides very high throughput on bulk email. 1,000,000 
messages per hour in tests!

Actually, CFMAIL can do this now because you can specify backup mail 
servers (both in the tag and in the administrator) and it will 
fail-over automatically.
