OK - I have done some further tests on this. The problem is either in the data, or how you are loading the data. Generally, I cannot fault the process. When I used the packet you supplied earlier with exactly the same lines you also supplied to load it (except for the fact that my file lives in a different location) it works perfectly (as has also been reported by others). What I did find is the following: 1. If you remove the "version" attribute from the packet - the error mentioned happens. 2. As long as the "version" attribute exists and has a number in it, CFMX will process the packet. The number can be anything you like, 1.0 or even 1000. 3. If #file# is empty - the error mentioned happens. Are you absolutely sure that #file# has the contents of the file you are loading (i.e. do a <CFDUMP> on it or output it before you call the <WDDX> tag - just to be sure). Maybe try using a different name for the variable instead of "file". Maybe "wddxdata" ? "file" might be a reserved word in Java that is getting confused with something else. And also check to make sure that the file contents have a valid <wddxPacket version="xxxx"> (from above, the number doesn't matter but it MUST be there and the version attribute MUST be there). Either the validator, or the DTD, or CFMX may be at fault here (i.e. in requiring the "version" attribute) or there may be a clash with a Java variable of some sort. There is no gaurantee (especially from CF 4.51 to CFMX) that your code will just "work" without changes to some parameters and/or variable names.
