Paul,
How does that apply to a JSP server like Tomcat.

Only if you don't have JDBC drivers for the database.

This: http://spike.oli.tudelft.nl/jochemd/index.cfm?PageID=15
describes how to connect CFMX to PostgreSQL via JDBC. This was written
from a CFMX Windows perspective, but should be fine for Unix.

The JDBC drivers are available at http://jdbc.postgresql.org

The tricky part will be making sure the JDBC driver is in the
right area. Either find where the JVM has its CLASSPATH pointed
to and put the driver there, or put the driver somewhere and
add that to the CLASSPATH.

Of course with CF it's usually just a matter of putting the
JAR file into the wwwroot/WEB-INF/classes directory and cycling
the server.
