I am not sure whether I understand fully...

I reckoned that it would be quicker, cause there is no guess work involved for CF, 
i.e. CF here's the variable with the absolute scope it is in - bang....

I guess you are saying that once the page is compiled the absolute scope is added by 
CF anyway, is that what you are trying to say (or said)?

If so, would it not speed up the first request?

In the context of a CF COMPONENT I think you will find that the 
compilation step adds the variables. in front of it (or the equivalent to 
resolving the reference to variables.).

Or - at least I hope there would be some compilation optimisation 
happening.

Otherwise, it would have to "find" the scope at runtime no matter whether 
you added it or not (which is what would take the time).

So - at runtime - there will be no difference.
