ColdFusion does not have a native method to connect to a NNTP server.
I believe that there might be a CFX tag to do this, the alternative would be to do it via Java.

Andrew,
I was part aware that it could not be done in Actionscript. I do although, wish to use coldfusion to connect to the NNTP server. Although I am not sure of how to go about it. If someone has a script or could help me out that would be great.
Thanks
Gareth.

Agreed Central is very now, very cool. I've just finished writing a "how to" for Central & web services for Australian Developer magazine.
But...
Outlook has all the necessary tools built into it to connect to a mail server via pop or imap, it's not possible to do that with ActionScript alone.
Other tools can connect to news servers via nntp, it is not possible to to that via pure ActionScript either.
You could use ColdFusion as middleware to bridge the gap.

Mark,
Central is new, something that I believe people will begin to use more often. Could we not use central instead of Outlook? Why not do
everything
you need through central?
Its Centralised, it looks nice, its something great that we could get in
on?
I think there is no specific reason, I just like central.
Cheers
Gareth.
