You can actually delete individual keys from a collection (<cfindex action="delete" key="...."> - the "key" is available when you find something using <cfsearch>). The other methods in Verity only have any real value when you start deleting keys. If you are indexing the file system the key (from memory) is the complete path to the object. So if you know what file you are deleting, it should be simple to delete just that one entry (I have built systems around CF Verity tags that did this). Deleting it and recreating it is costly - although often the easiest solution. Also check out the "update" action as well - lets you add things incrementally. I have found the "purge" and "refresh" actions totally unreliable (they do "something" but not what you think they should do). But that is a "Verity" thing (even their command line tools behave strangely) not a CF problem.
