Not if it is the same application name, however the problem is that it resets the session timeout which will be global and is pointless.
 
Because the next person that comes along will reset that with the cfapplication in the application.cfm file.

Peter, I know how I've been doing it successfully for ages, with your help.  What I'm wondering about is what this fellow who wrote this code before me was doing.

If it's a valid way to end sessions or not.  I can't help thinking that restarting the application with a new CFAPPLICATION tag every time someone logs out must break all the other users' sessions too, wouldn't it?
