Are you using Linux? if so I have a packaged and ready cfx tag made for me
by some very friendly Russians. It works a dream comes with all the
library's required.

Another one to look at is jimg which ships with one of the MM resource kits.

I've used a bit and has worked well.

Have a look at ImageMagick and its coldfusion tools. Its opensource, I use
it and have no problems.
