...and many CFers use terms in a different way to the de facto
industry standard terms... which has the effect of making CFers
look... um, well, like they don't understand software at all... and
that, unfortunately, contributes to the bad rap CF gets.

I totally agree. In fact, in my talk at CFUN, I said to folks who were
planning to get into OO and Mach II that they need to learn Java or
some other OO language because CF doesn't have enough OO support to
really practice all of the important concepts (interfaces, for
example). You can't learn OO from CF. You *can* apply OO techniques to
CF.
