Stored Procedures are an option (but yes differ across DB servers). Views can be useful. I just can't see why you don't leave them in CFML templates (or CFC's) and have a switchable method of using SQL for any supported DB server you wish to use (eg MySQL, Oracle, Postgres, etc).
