What you can also do along similar lines to the RTF method is build your word doc in word and save it as 'html'. Word puts all these cusom CSS tags in there etc etc. ive used this technique before with excel to get my column headings to display at 45 degree angles and stuff like that.

Then you just past all this html into your CF file and set the content-type header.
