Unicode is the cause of your problems. Word, and most MS products (even wordpad), will stick all sorts of Unicode into what gets cut/pasted out of it. Even simple things like quotes, both single and double, will be converted into unicode equivalents. You should be able to do a search on unicode filtering and get what you need.
