Extremely good point. The most important thing for any developer/s is to
find the right resource to market their solution. I have seen time and
again brilliant software fall by the wayside yet other crap prosper,
simply due to marketing. Web based technology is here to stay for quite a
while longer and I'm quite happy I write web based applications and not
client / server app's.

With CF7, sourceless development and deployable .WAR packages choice of
technology becomes a moot point (Tomcat is free after all). Approach a
client and tell them you can write a J2EE app faster and cheaper then any
java code monkeys, which can deploy on any J2EE server - no need to even
mention coldfusion (notice i spelt it correctly this time ... woohoo). I'd
say the future of CF is extremely bright. I'm drooling over sourceless
development ....

Macromedia has invested quite a lot of resources in the most cost
effective way - enhancing coldfusion itself. With CF7, server sales and
marketing will really be a non issue. Macromedia to an extent is shooting
itself in the foot with the next release. Clients will deploy coldfusion
built applications on their J2EE platform/s with packaged WAR files that
include the CF runtime. In essence no need for a cf server at all at the
client site.

Soon the time will have finally arrived when CF developers can compete
with packaged software on an enterprise level. To me that is extremely
exciting. I applaud Macromedia for their approach, they are one of the
very few software developers that actually listen to their developers.

Think about it ...

OS - Linux
Webserver - Apache
App server - Tomcat
DB - MySQL

running a CF coded J2EE app. with only the java bytecode on the server.

Do we still need to discuss selling / marketing CF servers? Macromedia by
their approach have guaranteed CF development will grow regardless of
server sales.

But that is just my opinion.

(Sorry about the long email ... but I really believe CF development will
only increase with the release of cf7)
