Macromedia has invested quite a lot of resources in the most cost effective way - enhancing coldfusion itself. With CF7, server sales and marketing will really be a non issue. Macromedia to an extent is shooting itself in the foot with the next release. Clients will deploy coldfusion built applications on their J2EE platform/s with packaged WAR files that include the CF runtime. In essence no need for a cf server at all at the client site.
My understanding is that you will always require a license of some sort on the server to deploy a CF application. Sourceless deployment will still require a server sale. But then you're really just incorporating the cost of CF into your solution sale cost.
