Peter, I think it is quite valid for us to discuss things here that affect us as developers. And I think MM (if it is listening) will appreciate the feedback.

OK. So Devnet is dead and the licencing portion of the programme has been rolled into MVLP. Great. Now what about the rest of the Devnet features?

IMHO Macromedia should be increasing it's support of developers, not reducing it. Simple as that. From the top down M$ promotes it's commitment to and support for "Developers! Developers! Developers!". Now that might be comical when you watch the video but it is still a very strong statement, and MSDN certainly isn't about to disappear. By comparison MM is whispering it's support while appearing to pull the only 'developer centric' software licence and developer programme out from under us.

The only announcement from MM about this has talked about replacing the licence portion of Devnet. There has been nothing (that I've seen) on the 'support' features of Devnet. What message should I as a developer take from that?

Macromedia's products are fantastic. They are significantly more productive than those of the main competitors. But productivity alone is not going to cut it. And even giving the appearance of reducing support for the developer community will not help. And I sincerely hope that it is only an 'appearance' of reduced support.

Scotty, keep this off list so that only members of DevNet can/should comment

It is not appropriate for CFAUSSIE as not all of us used that particular
license model. (I did but not for a while).

Mark Blair has recently announced he will take questions for all Aussie
DevNet subscribers ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).

I will keep my thoughts on the value of the DevNet disks to myself...

Q1. Why the hell is MM loosing the Serial Number DB part. I found that so
useful when installing my MM software at workplaces where I needed them but
didn't want to hassle em for purchasing (figured its mine, so back off)

Q2. Why loose it? I'm no marketing genius but Macromedia really needs to shy
away from loosing these so called "great ideas", as its kind of hard to take
the next one seriously now....

I guess what I am getting at, is why spend so much time ramming Devnet down
our throats and making us feel isolated for not having it to then turn
around and say "yeah we're bored with that idea, heres a new one in its
place".

I'm confused.

Q3. Does it have anything to do with any *cough* upcoming products. *Grin*

{P.S} For what its worth, I liked it. It reminded of MSDN Subscription system,
where I could login, download software anywhere anytime with appropriate
serial numbers for them.

I thought it was silly to loose that capability, sure change price models
all you like etc... But that was a good feature of Macromedia.com!

/cry

I'm happy to take any questions if you have specifics. Customers / Partners should all receive an official notification email in the next couple of days. The email has links to fairly detailed FAQ's on the topic.

Some have already gone out but some may still be waiting to go out in the next few days.

Regarding DEVNET, try Amy Brooks ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) to handle enquiries.

Amy is one of the first back at work and will know how to get you questions answered.

Amy also has her fingers on the pulse but may still neeed to dig further. And who better than someone that actually works for MM as

"Community

Manager".

So someone try that before flying off the handle like some of us others did on a totally different topic.

Ask and you shall know.
