I agree, in many ways, more can be done for developers but, i guess what else? ... thats another discussion.

I did like the Devnet program though, i'm sure in all their infinite wisdom they have reasons for it, and any ranting / raving done her is like farting into a head-wind, may feel good but it still stinks.

Personally, after playing WoW for awhile now and having to put up with software giant Blizzards crap, thinking on Macromedias customer service in all, isn't that bad.. its sobered me up a bit on how at times, MM is good (ie found out recently that a lot of software companies don't even respond to forums/cries for help...amazing).

I guess M$ comparisons suck as MSDN didn't grow over night, if memory serves me correct its early stages sucked the big one. I can't for the life me understand why Microsoft have the jump on web-based TV shows streaming through WMA etc, where as Macromedia have Flash Video staring them in the face and nudda.

I think we could all do with some nice visuals for a change, farkin sick of white papers, it'd be good to simply sit back at lunch, listen to some guru from the community prattle on about XYZ, take it all in and walk away with something.

Thats what i thought Devnet was heading towards, in that it to me was going to your portal to the Macromedia software (serials, downloads, tutorials etc).. so far, its really done swfa to entice my wallet and i'm sure if Sean & Team had the green light, they could create some really cool resource sinks for us via MM.com

Anywho, i thought devnet had a bigger future and after preeching it to other devs/agencies and now finding out its goin south (hopefully something better will replace it) it kinda feels like waking up with a sore butt while spooning with mike tyson in a jail cell.. not a happy thought.

Scott.

Peter, I think it is quite valid for us to discuss things here that affect us as developers. And I think MM (if it is listening) will appreciate the feedback.

OK. So Devnet is dead and the licencing portion of the programme has been rolled into MVLP. Great. Now what about the rest of the Devnet features?

IMHO Macromedia should be increasing it's support of developers, not reducing it. Simple as that. From the top down M$ promotes it's commitment to and support for "Developers! Developers! Developers!". Now that might be comical when you watch the video but it is still a very strong statement, and MSDN certainly isn't about to disappear. By comparison MM is whispering it's support while appearing to pull the only 'developer centric' software licence and developer programme out from under us.

The only announcement from MM about this has talked about replacing the licence portion of Devnet. There has been nothing (that I've seen) on the 'support' features of Devnet. What message should I as a developer take from that?

Macromedia's products are fantastic. They are significantly more productive than those of the main competitors. But productivity alone is not going to cut it. And even giving the appearance of reducing support for the developer community will not help. And I sincerely hope that it is only an 'appearance' of reduced support.
