there are versions for safari and mozilla. you just do a browser sniff
to work out which one.

One thing (from my limited research) I don't understand, is it uses
the XMLHTTPRequest component (essentially a client side HTTP library)
which is supplied by MS.

So how does AJAX work on Mac/Unix? Isn't XMLHTTPRequest an ActiveX
object?
