>> Funny, I got the impression there was a onServerStart and onServerEnd
methods in the Application.cfc file

Nah, I wish. First thing I looked for when I heard about "events" in
"Application.cfc". I've been used to the simple ones (application, session)
since ASP classic and the global.asa (for those who know wot i mean..)

If you think about it, it may be tricky to work out when the server is starting
or stopping because (IMHO) it means hooking into the OS (and if somone trips
over the server power cord, will the onServerEnd fire? doubtful...)

let me fly a flag for onServerStart, onServerEnd anyhoo. And just as an aside,
ASP.NET has a list of events that far surpass the Application.cfc. (but still
no "Server_Start")

Application_Start
Application_Init
Application_BeginRequest
Application_AuthenticateRequest
Application_AuthorizeRequest
Application_ResolveRequestCache
Application_AcquireRequestState
Application_PreRequestHandlerExecute
Application_PreSendRequestHeaders
Application_PreSendRequestContent
Application_(actual processing)
Application_Error
Session_Start
Session_End
Application_PostRequestHandlerExecute
Application_ReleaseRequestState
Application_UpdateRequestCache
Application_EndRequest
Application_Disposed
Application_End

but as Sean Corfield and others have pointed out, most of these are just simple
API's into something you can do with the loading of the CF page, HTTP output
or page load - smoke and mirrors.

but server events? that's harder (it seems)

what do people think about the bodgy shedualed task idea? (a "run once" task
set to the distant past that calls the first page)

thanx

Funny, I got the impression there was a onServerStart and onServerEnd
methods in the Application.cfc file, but I looked at the
documentation, there wasn't any references to methods like that. From
the discussion so far and in previous discussions prior to 7 be
released, this is a hot issue and something like that would be ideal.
Or was it in the CFMX 7 Admin scheduled tasks?
