to get the ball rolling

renaming uploaded file names:

to comabat multiple files with the same filename (for a homespun CMS) I rename*
the files with the ID of the db entry (usually a UUID) and parsing the content
to replace the filename with it's new name. I also hang onto the old filename
for alt tags and display for editing details and also have a field (with an
index) for the filetype/extention (helps with mime types, etc). also helps with
versioning with a bit more work...

id | orig_filename | extention | added_on | added_by | updated_on | updated_by
| ...etc

<a href="#qry.id#.#qry.extention#">View file #qry.orig_filename#</a>

etc...

my 2c worth
barry.b

*past tense - haven't worked on it for over two years - rather use Farcry
now-a-days...
