Redirect actually sends a 301/302 error for redirects (temporary redirect/permanent redirect) from the server.
As for finding crawlers, for the record, do a search on robots.txt on google and you'll find the list of crawlers on one of the sites. Why can't you just include a difference .cfm for each version of the site?
