I'm not sure if you read the blogs of guys like Mike Nimer (http://www.mikenimer.com/) & Steve Erat (http://www.talkingtree.com/blog/), but these are the sorts of guys you are dealing with - they really, really, really know what they are talking about. We had a server that was crashing from time to time whenever it got any load. Turned out to be the JVM hotspot bug Steve mentions at http://www.talkingtree.com/blog/index.cfm?mode=entry&entry=25AA65E0-45A6-2844-7CCF931D89B0133E. There was no way I would have been able to debug & fix this myself. If you are thinking of speaking to them about a server not behaving save yourself some time and turn on all the profiling & debugging options on the JVM, start with a set of fresh log files and run your server for a while. Send all the info through to them when they ask for it.
