Verity!? Excellent?! If you ever work on an enterprise search tool or speak
to any taxononimist to realise that Verity is a bad word in the search
circles...

It is "get many results, get no results" kind of tool.

Simply awful. I urge anyone who is on MX to never consider Verity
(especially if you do not want to pay tens of thousands for a crap search
tool) to yet Lucene first, it is faster, more accurate and more
importantly...FREE.

You have to remember, as a company in it's life MM did not have that many
apps of it own - it took the Microsoft approach of buying em in (ColdFusion,
Homesite, JRun, Freehand to name a few). Until MM bought Allaire all it was
Dreamweaver (I am not counting Fireworks as I think it cannot compete with
Photoshop).

To be fair Macromedia have always been more than that. Over the years with
some shrewd acquisitions (Allaire for example). In fact thanks to MM
ColdFusion has never been a better platform.

I was one of the doomsayers as I have been using ColdFusion since it was
called Cold Fusion. But MM's engineers are truly the best around (Damon
Cooper, Mike Nimer, etc) and the efffervescant Tim Buntel as Senior Product
Manager. Adobe will nurture them and we will all benefit. In fact you only
need to reference the "third party" docs of ColdFusion to see the bits and
pieces that they have brought to us. More than the excellent Verity engine
even.

I once thought give HomeSite back to Nick Bradbury (FeedDemon and TopStyle)
but Dreamweaver 8 is pretty good - bloody good actually - and HomeSite is
still on the CD. At least I think is on the Studio 8 CD. Don't want to wake
my flatmate up to check.

When Adobe finally acquire Macromedia they will be getting much more for
their money. Firstly - us - the dedicated developers. Secondly the real
people that front up and stick up for us like Sean Corfield, Ben Forta, Tim
Buntel, Mike Chambers, et al.

It might be rocky for a while. It was when MM first grabbed Allaire. But in
true Internet time we will all bounce back and give Microsoft something to
really think about! I didn't just spend AUD$650 on Studio 8 to abandon
Macromedia products so readily.
