Gary,
You are soooo right on. In fact, I ordered the HH book last Thur., look for
it to arrive tomorrow. I have struggled with a problem for months now and I
hope this will give me the ability to end it. I just can't find an example
of what I'm trying to do, anyway, another story.
Glad you asked...though
The problem is this:
I need to create a form with a header and detail lines, the columns of the
detail are the same for all forms, but the number of lines and the
information on each line varies by user/form. Some people want subtotals,
totals, but no consistent line. I thought I could create a formula in the
template, then I wouldn't be locked into a certain line for totals.
Example
Debit Account|Credit Account|Description|Amount
-----------------------------------------------
1000 2000 Alimony 1000
1500 2500 Child S 1000
Total formula that adds line 1 and 2
I save this like a template in a table with the amount field = 0. Then when
I want to input data, I open the form and query the proper table/template.
When done, and the user saves the form, a lot of accounts and transactions
need to be updated, current Balance, MTD, YTD, etc. In other words it would
be the responsibility of each object to keep track of its own data. I just
thought if I could create this one giant Object in one spot I could control
the data. I hope...
Jamie

Subject: RE: [CFCDev] Query Results into objects
Hello James,
I just wanted to check to see if you had had any Object Oriented design
experience.
If you wanted to brush up on those techniques then I believe the Hal Helms
book that was mentioned earlier this week on the list would be good (I
cant remember the name of it now but it would be in the archives or
someone else on the list will remember it).
I only asked because it seems like your questions are more about object
hierarchy and relationship design than any issues with CFC's (as such).
Of course, that sort of help is also available on this list (but having a
reference like Hal's book might make things a little quicker and provide
some alternatives not mentioned on the list).
