You may think so, but I do not. To answer your question about the 
numeric datatype the errorcodes would be padded and out of range for 
what the function would normally return.

Only doing one returntype is not an option. If the user is expecting an 
array I can't return to them a struct.

I agree with the array problem. This could be padded also I believe.
