Ok forget the array and numeric returntypes. Say it was only for strings, structs, and queries.

I like it better to return an error object in the same returntype as they would expect if all was well than letting cf throw an error.

Try giving a webservice that returns a soap fault to someone on coldfusion-howto when they enter the wrong arguments. What in the world would they do? No disrespect to new cfers, however this is a valid concern IMO.
