We use MySQL 4.0 and aren't ready to upgrade to 4.1. I've also had a horrendous time getting these characters to display in a web browser. I've read many posts on this list about the subject, but haven't had any luck - I still get mojibake even with cfprocessingdirectives, cfcontents, and setEncodings in place. I can import a text file with the special characters into MySQL, and it appears as though they are stored properly, but when I send these characters to Flash, I get garbage. However, if I manually send special characters to Flash using the char() command, they display properly. I'm trying to find the best middle-ground for the 3 mediums (HTML, Flash and MySQL) that I have to work with. But if I could do it all without conversion, I'd obviously prefer that.

For that matter, everything in life is a metaphor for life. Except life. Life is probably a metaphor for metaphor. -- James Lileks ---------------------------------------------------------- You are subscribed to cfcdev.
