That’s actually the opposite of what I’ve found (in general) in my testing, Adam. Which makes sense, because IIf() forces code to be “Evaluate()”ed.

 

Either way, the timing differences are *negligible* and not worth worrying about.  We’re talking about a couple of milliseconds.  I’d also wager it’s highly dependent on machine configuration, as well as the statement being evaluated.

Nope, not since CF5.  My testing suggests iif() is faster than <cfif><cfelse></cfif>, in equivalant tests.  A Simple <cfif></cfif> was faster than iif(), though.

 

That's not the only conisderation, though, obviously.  And, indeed, the differences were marginal (although clearly always favoured iif()).

 

I don't *stop* myself from using iif() when needs must, but I'm more inclined to stick to a plain old if() most of the time.  Or <cfif> if I really have to ;-)
