skeptical on its existence.

Nah, CF is a language, no markup at all. It should be called ColdFusion
Language - CFL. Get rid of the markup notion entirely.
Last year Simon Horwith tried to do cfstandards.org, and that appears dead.
Without the formal notation, CF will always be a weak programing choice.
