For now i think we will look at seeing if using the webroot is a solution for us.

Funnily enough I nearly added that as an option on my list (but I
suspected you'd be along to mention it)! Yes, VMWare is a good, cheap
option for running multiple instances on a single server.
And of course I should mention the open source version for Linux -- Xen :)
I've been using VMWare on the desktop since v1.0 and it changed my life -- watching RH6.2 boot in a window from my computer's bios while it was running Windows (NT) was amazing. One of my former clients (large professional organization) is consolidating several dozen servers that ran single CF apps (old, creaky 4.5 apps that don't play well with others) onto 4 servers -- now that's cool.
