I definitely believe it's worth reading, especially since it cover lot of
database and web related patterns. It's less of a dry reading compared to
the GoF book, but still follow along the same lines and often refer back to
the GoF...

I agree. It's a fine book, but it would be pretty much redundant after Head
First Design Patterns

Don't be scared by the title, there isn't much UML there :-)
I can definitely say it's a very good book, I have the feeling it may be the
right choice for you at this stage, but if you manage to look at it in a
bookstore first, you will be able to see by yourself.
