I agree with Tim that we must learn what major systems expect and do a
proper fix.

I see you're in a hurry to get it to 3.6, though I think we need a
proper fix, especially to get in a major release.

The ARM back-end is broken in RC1, so we'll most certainly have at
least an RC2. I think we have time to get it to 3.6 if we all agree on
a common implementation.

I support the idea of reverting this patch now, start a thread on both
lists, and let's see what's the consensus is.
