Yes, there are improvements in that regard. I won't say much (four more days
to go), but you can read about what Branden Hall said (new LoadVars object):

As for communication between Flash and the server, you can get a hint of
things to come from the Rich Client whitepaper, in particular this
paragraph:

"Real-time communications. Macromedia is introducing new server solutions
that will work with Macromedia Flash Player for adding two-way
communications, including voice, video and shared data between multiple
users."
