Bob, there are a couple other solutions that you may want to explore. One
will work, the other won't. But both may be interesting even for Studio
users who don't use RDS. The problem you raise (the hassle about moving
among directories) is indeed an annoyance, and the CF5 Studio feature to
have 2 file tabs is a great solution.

But for those who don't have Studio 5, here are 2 alternatives.

First, there is a "favorite folders" feature in Studio. While you have a
directory selected, right click on the file names area (not the directory
names area) and choose "favorite folders". You can "add current folder to
favorites" and then, in the future, when you want to return to it after
choosing some other drive/directory, use the same approach and select the
saved favorite.

The gotcha: it doesn't work for RDS folders (or FTP). Doh!

But for those who've never used it, it's still a great feature even when
just working in different directories and/or drives on your local machine.

Still, there is another solution. Try the "projects" tab instead (3rd from
the right on a default configuration of the Studio "resource tab", where
your files tab is). If you've never used it, it would probably be best to
point you to the "Using CF Studio" help that comes with Studio (in the
"help" tab in the resource toolbar).

But quickly, in that "projects" tab, click the little "wand" icon at the top
of the "window" that opens for that resource toolbar tab (or use Project>New
Project). It opens a dialogue where you can choose a name and location of
your project. You can point it to your RDS server (use the "folder" icon" to
then point to your RDS server and intended directory). Fill out the other
prompts as discussed in the "Using Studio" docs. (Just be careful not to
point the location to a directory with too many files and/or subdirectories,
since the default behavior is for it to create a project with all the files
and subdirectories. That could be a lot of stuff!)

Now, you can open the project in the projects tab (pointing at your RDS
files) and use the files tab for your local files (or vice-versa).

I've just created a "viewlet" for using "favorite folders". If you're not
familiar with viewlets, they're a really cool way to show how to do complex
things like this. It's like watching a movie while I walk you through the
steps in Studio. I'd like to have done one for using the projects feature,
but that will have to wait. It's bed-time.

Check it out at http://www.systemanage.com/viewlets/.
