One more ... the one I learned from was the Lan Times "Guide To SQL" - it's still in print ( I think ... ) and is one that I still have beside me today - it makes a good reference also.

I used two texts to learn what I had to on SQL.  They are, in the order read:

SQL Clearly Explained by Jan L. Harrington, and

Teach yourself SQL Quick Steps for Fast results by Ben Forta (who else).

I liked Harrington's book because it was a fairly deep, yet quick academic primer on SQL.  She explains much about the finer points of writing efficient SQL code.

I no longer refer to Harrington's as a reference or a refresher since, true to form, Ben Forta's presentation is so focused on the coding and is tailored to problem solving as opposed to extensive understanding of the way SQL works.

I'm not sure however that Forta's book would have seemed so great without the solid basics I learned quite easily from Harrington's.  I suggest you check both of these out and see if they suit your learning style and needs.

Good luck.
