Good point, Matt, though this kind of begs the question as to whether "the move to XHTML", which would really seem more focused around what gets sent to the browser, is really all that important to us in our CF code.
But clearly it may have been part of the motivation that led the CF designers to add the ability to use such self-closing tags in about Release 4, if I remember correctly. You don't NEED to use them Mike, and since there's not been much more talk about this feature since then, it's probably not worth worrying about too much.
