I'm not positive, but I can guess that in order to support ODBC datasources
(which are so prevalent in the CF world and anathema to most in the Java
world), Macromedia maybe licensed some third-party service from someone to
help bridge this gap. Note, by the way, that the "JDBC:ODBC bridge" that Sun
offered previously for this solution is known to be very inadequate.
