Hello This is no help to your problem, but coincidently, I'm getting that error also for two of my sites. And the ISP hasn't been able to figure it out either. However, when I refresh the page it works. (Of course that is not a solution)
Out of interest, My ISP is Blue Genesis, if that's yours also, this could narrow down the problem. I was thinking of implementing an error page that would catch this problem, and them automatically resubmit the request. Except I'm afraid, because as the error is listed as a "General Error" different errors might put it into a loop. Anyways...
