Hi Todd, After making the educated guess, I would then convert back to unicode, displaying that (truncated if necessary) to the user and ask them to confirm whether it reads as they would expect it. If they hit the <No, that's a bit garbled> button then I know not to send it to the cobol app. I'd then log that as an example of failure, so that gradually the guessing would be coded to get smarter. (If no failures, even better.)
