Thanks for the quick reply. I'll give 0.7alpha3 a shot -- the only reason I avoided it was potential instability implied by "alpha"... I really do want to be "just a user", I'm up to my ears in development work on embedded stuff.
If it was 0.7alpha1 or 2 I would probably agree - but alpha3 has a number of key features, one of which is that we moved to Ubuntu for the linux builds so that means it runs much better on the newer Linux distros. There is also a number of other app features that deal with calendars and sharing I think you will like - it's all spelled out at the chandler.osafoundation.org site.
I'll be running Chandler against an iCal server I have set up under Apache on the home file server. My wife runs Apple's OS X iCal application, and we run phpical. Why the family calendar is so complex we need all that stuff is a question for another day....
hehehe - quite a few of the OSAF team also have similar requirements so if you have any setup questions just ask.
FYI: tar --version reports: tar (GNU tar) 1.15.1
yep - that's the culprit. The newer GNU tar seems to be the one that is finicky about exclude option placement (or they finally made it right :)
